Pathogenesis
- Inflammation
- of small bronchi (bronchiolitis)
- destruction of the lung parenchyma, decrease of elasticity
- development of emphysema
- Obstruction
- Blockage of the lumen of the bronchi (chronic bronchitis)
- Disorders of mucociliary transport
- Remodeling bronchi
- Extrapulmonary changes (endocrine and skeletal muscle dysfunction, anemia, osteoporosis, weight loss)
